Open Edit PDF

Terms of Service

Last updated: August 16, 2026

These terms govern your use of Open Edit PDF (openeditpdf.com), operated by its independent creator. By using this site, you agree to the terms below. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.

What this service is

Open Edit PDF provides free, browser-based tools for viewing, editing, organizing, converting, and signing PDF files. All file processing happens locally in your browser — we do not require you to create an account, and we do not receive or store copies of the files you work with on our servers. Some tools save your in-progress work locally in your own browser for convenience; see our Privacy Policy for exactly what that involves and how to clear it.

Acceptable use

You agree not to use Open Edit PDF to:

  • Process, generate, or distribute content that is illegal, infringing, fraudulent, or harmful.
  • Attempt to disrupt, overload, probe, or reverse-engineer the site, its infrastructure, or the anonymous usage counter in a way that harms other users or the service itself.
  • Misrepresent documents processed through this site — including output from the e-signature or document generator tools — as officially certified, notarized, government-issued, or legally binding where they are not.
  • Use automated means (bots, scripts, scrapers) to send excessive requests to the site or artificially inflate the usage counter.

No account, minimal data on our end

Because there are no user accounts, there is no account data for us to secure, lose, or hand over. The only signal our server receives from your use of the site is the anonymous download counter ping described in our Privacy Policy, plus the ordinary connection information (such as IP address) that any web server logs for any visitor. Any theme preference, reading-mode setting, or saved draft is stored locally in your own browser and can be cleared at any time by clearing your browser's site data.

Service "as is"

Open Edit PDF is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do our best to keep tools accurate and reliable, but PDF files vary widely in structure and complexity, and we do not guarantee that every tool will be free of errors, available without interruption, or perfectly suited to every use case. See our Disclaimer for more detail on result accuracy and liability, particularly for the OCR, e-signature, and document-generation tools.

Intellectual property

The Open Edit PDF name, logo, site design, and underlying code are the property of Open Edit PDF and its creator, except where third-party open-source libraries are used under their own licenses. You retain full ownership of any documents you process using our tools — we never claim any rights over your content, since we never receive it.

Advertising and donations

We may in the future display advertising to help cover the cost of running this free service, and we may offer an optional donation page. Donations are voluntary and do not unlock any additional features or remove any existing functionality — every tool remains free and available to everyone regardless of whether you choose to support the project.

Changes to the service or these terms

We may update these terms, or add, change, or remove tools and features, at any time, without prior notice. Material changes to these terms will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above; continued use of the site after a change means you accept the revised terms.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Open Edit PDF and its creator are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the service — including damages related to file processing results, data loss in your own browser's local storage, missed deadlines, or reliance on any output produced by the tools. Our total liability for any claim arising from your use of the service shall not exceed the amount you paid us to use it, which for this free service is zero.

Governing approach

This is a free tool offered globally with no jurisdiction-specific sign-up process. Where local law grants you rights that cannot be waived by these terms (for example, certain consumer-protection rights), those rights are unaffected by anything above.
